The games season is all about competition.
Our Winter Challenge event is a nice, fun,
team building competition at the halfway point to the games season. Last year we had
competitors from Kelowna to Bellingham and everywhere in between, and all had a great
time. This year is looking to be bigger, better, and a whole lot of fun!

Well, all of the hard fought seeding WOD scores have been collected and data analyzed. The field looks pretty spread out at first glance (speaking by ability anyways), but always remember - this is only 3 specific seeding WODs and this is a Crossfit competition where anything can happen. This last statement is more so true during our unique team event here at the Taranis Winter Challenge where teams will be organized into pools in which they will fight for a top 2 finish in their respective pool over the course of Friday and Saturday in hopes of making it through to the 8-team single elimination head to head bracket style competition for the trophy on Sunday!

Getting to the goods - here are the final standings (organized by final rank) going into the team competition for the 2011 Taranis Winter Challenge:

RANK.docx

The four pools (based on the rankings) for Round Robin play which will be taking place throughout Friday and Saturday look like this:

Pool A:
Red, White and Blue Bellz
CrossFit Vernon
Martinin Madness
CrossFit BC WallBallers
Team Zoners 1

Pool B:
CrossFit Vancouver
CrossFit North Vancouver “A”
CrossFit Whistler
Cascadian Bureau of Fortitude
CrossFit Yaletown 2

Pool C:
Team Taranisaurus
CrossFit Overdrive 1
CrossFit West Vancouver
Team Zoners 2
The Squamptonites

Pool D:
Team Westside
Natural Strength CrossFit
CrossFit Yaletown 1
CrossFit North Vancouver B
CrossFit Overdrive 2

We are soooo looking forward to watching you all throw down next weekend!

Remember ALL ATHLETES (teams and individuals) check in by 5pm. First event kicks off at 6pm.
We will have heats for the weekend posted ASAP.

-CFTWC Team

Some know they aren’t gonna get any answers but many still try their lick and have been asking questions. “What’s that?” “What you building?” “What are they for?”

I will tell you exactly what I tell them.

Q: “What’s that?”
A: “Wood”

Q: “What you building?”
A: “Stuff”

Q: “What are they for?”
A: “The Winter Challenge”

So there you have it all, everyone has seen as much as everyone else but certainly no one has seen all there is to see! The event this year promises to be the greatest event to date, of that I am sure.

Feel free to offer speculation and discussion below in comments.

Quote:
“Every man gotta right to decide his own destiny”
~Bob Marley

THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS FOR SPECTATOR TICKETS.

In order to make the spectator purchase process as fair as possible, you will only be allowed to purchase one spectator ticket at a time.

There will be a link at the end of this blog DO NOT SKIP DIRECTLY TO THE LINK.

You will be required to enter a name into the field when asked. The name entered into this field is the name of the spectator that will be in our spreadsheet to allow this person into the competition.
If you are purchasing a spectator ticket for someone other than yourself, you must enter their name in this field.
Once a name is entered into the field, you will be directed to PayPal. When you are in paypal; select and pay for 1 TICKET ONLY.

This is important: Paypal will allow you to purchase multiple tickets because we cannot control the volume that an individual buys. If you do this, however, you will only have one name attached to this purchase. Therefore we will only have you registered as one spectator. You will not be allowed to add names at a later date through any other means and you will not be refunded for any of the extra tickets purchased. We are doing this to ensure a fair and equitable way to purchase spectator tickets. You must buy 1 ticket at a time through the flexfwd site and enter a name for each ticket purchased.

Also, do not go in and purchase 10 tickets under the same name. Each ticket must have a different name. If you are purchasing for your children, enter their names when you purchase their tickets.

This is the only way that we know to make it fair so that one person doesn’t come online and buy 50 of our 100 available weekend passes. Please play by the rules so that we don’t have to be the bad guy.

If the online weekend passes sell out, we will be selling 50 spectator tickets daily at the door. This is the largest competition that we have held at our box and the largest spectator response. We are doing our best to try and accommodate as many people as possible in our limited space facility.

Lastly, if the passes all sell out and you want to guarantee a place in the venue for the weekend, we can always use volunteers. You will have to work for portions of the weekend but you will be guaranteed to get in.

Questions or to volunteer:
email taraniswinter@crossfitvic.com

Spectator ticket link:

Weekend Passes have SOLD OUT! SORRY!
DAY PASSES WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

Sometime before the competition the teams of 4 (2males+2females) must complete the 3 following WODS to determine their pre-comptetition seeding so we can place them into pools for the Round Robin Play that begins on the Friday night. These can be completed anytime, with the final submission deadline being 11:59pm on Friday October 28th, 2011.

Seeding WOD #1:
"Team Fran"

This is done relay style - 21-21-21-21-15-15-15-15-9-9-9-9 FOR TIME:
Thrusters (95/65lbs)
Pullups

Athlete A does 21 Thrusters followed by 21 Pullups, then Athlete B does 21+21, then Athlete C does the same and Athlete D does the same after C. Once Athlete D finishes their 21st Pullup, Athlete A begins 15 Thrusters followed by 15 Pullups, followed by Athlete B doing the same, then C, then D. And finally A, then B, then C, then D complete the 9s in the same fashion.
Score is total time.

Seeding Wod #2:
"Team Dianne"

As a group of 4, one person working at a time complete the following FOR TIME:
84 Deadlifts (225/165lbs)
84 HSPU
60 Deadlifts
60 HSPU
36 Deadlifts
36 HSPU

Reps can be divided however you wish between your team of 4, nobody MUST complete either of the exercises, the reps do not have to be divided equally between team members. Allowed one male bar and one female bar.

Seeding WOD #3:
"Team Isabelle"

As a group of 4, one person working at a time complete the following FOR TIME:
120 Snatches (135/95lbs)

This can be any type of Snatch, however the bar MUST INITIATE FROM THE GROUND. You may Power Snatch, Squat Snatch or Split Snatch. Break these reps up however you see fit. Nobody MUST complete a snatch. Allowed one male bar and one female bar.

Standards:
Thruster - the usual barbell thruster, crease of the hip below the top of the knee in the squat portion and lockout of the elbows at the top while the knees and hips are open in a manner so that a line perpendicular to the floor could be drawn through the middle of the foot, the hip joint, the shoulders, and the barbell.
Pullup - lockout of the elbows at the beginning of the pullup, chin higher than the top of the pullup bar at the finish, dropping from the top is permitted.

Deadlift - bar initiates from the ground every rep, fully open hip and knees at the top of the lift with the shoulders behind the barbell, dropping from the finish position is permitted.
HSPU - the usual HSPU standards, hands on floor head touches floor at the bottom, elbows in full lockout with feet in contact with the wall at the top.

Snatch - Barbell initiates from the ground every rep. In one fluid motion the bar must become locked out over head (same standard as the finish position of the thruster). This can be a muscle snatch, power snatch, squat snatch, split snatch. Whatever you got to do to get it locked out over head in one motion (ie no pausing at the shoulder or in front of the face).

TIME CAP:
All 3 seeding WODs will have a 45 minute cap to complete. For every rep not completed 1 second will be added to the 45minutes.

For example a team that has 7 HSPU left in Team "Dianne" when the time expires will submit a score of 45:07.
A team that only finishes the second round and still has 36 Deadlifts and 36 HSPU left when the time expires will submit a score of 46:12.

The CFTWC Team wishes good luck to all of the team challenge athletes gearing up to compete at the event, beginning with these seeding WODs.

Have fun, and Happy WODding!

CFTWC Team.
